Decorating for the year of the Ox

Recent times have been challenging for everyone across the world but the new year brings a renewed sense of joy and a chance to look ahead with a fresh perspective.

The Ox is a loyal creature and believed to be a symbol of honesty and hard work.  A great basis on which to rebuild our lives, and businesses, after such a difficult time.  So, as everyone comes together to celebrate, it is a perfect time to take a moment to stop, appreciate time with our families, and plan for a better year ahead.

Reorganising and enhancing your space is one of the best ways to start.  It will help you to feel a sense of renewal; out with the old and in with the new!  It will set the tone for you to enjoy a better 2021 with avid anticipation of good fortune.

Here are some of our top tips to quickly and easily spruce up your space, not only for the celebrations but to last throughout the year of the Ox:

1. Clean Up & Create Joy

It’s Spring cleaning time!! The first step for the new year is always to have a good clear-out – Marie Kondo style!! If it doesn’t bring you joy or doesn’t have a proper place, get rid of it!

Getting rid of clutter allows more breathing space giving you a sense of clarity and control. It’s a good way to mark the beginning of another year and let go of the weight of the past to make room for new things to come.

2. Use Auspicious Colours

This is the year of the Metal Ox, whose key auspicious colours are grey white, and silver!  As interior designers, this makes us very happy.  We love clean, white, fresh spaces.  Grey and silver are fabulous accent colours and can easily be added throughout the home as linens, vases, and picture frames.

To brighten things up and balance your space, we suggest also adding yellow.  This happy colour looks great alongside grey and is sure to promote a cheery vibe all year round (thank you, Pantone, who have also announced yellow and grey to be the colours of the year!).

3. Fill your Space with Plants and Flowers

Those of you who know us know we always want to add more plants!! You can’t go wrong with more greenery – ever!  Bring nature in, and it will always make your space feel good.

For the year of the Ox, lily of the valley and bamboo are symbols of good fortune and luck. Adding these into your home or workplace is great feng shui and will help to create a calming atmosphere and harmony within your space.

In summary, do things that make you happy! Welcome, 2021 with positive thoughts and elements.  A vibrant sense of hope and direction will usher in a prosperous year ahead for all of us.
