Woolf Works

Corporate Office Design

Woolf Works is a community and shared workspace for women located in a beautiful rooftop office on Carpenter Street in central Singapore. The members are a strong, vibrantly diverse community of women — creative freelancers, business owners, remote corporate workers, consultants and entrepreneurs.

Woolf Works, Southeast Asia’s first women-only co-working community, approached Aym Design to conceive a functional — but flexible — space for meetings, events and community activities. The key design tenets: retain the calm atmosphere in the current office and translate this curated feel into their new space to maximise the return on investment through exceptional space planning.

Space Planning, Interior Design Development, Workplace Consultancy

Primarily, Aym Design needed to maximise the number of desk spaces and seating areas whilst allowing for comfort and privacy in an open-plan office environment. This space needed to be a sanctuary away from the distractions at home and alternate to the current co-working products in the market. In addition to an open plan area, the office needed to appeal to a diverse range of clientele through multi-functional space offerings.

Through careful space planning, the floorplan was divided into several activity zones.

Small, cosy meeting rooms for coaching sessions and one-on-one consultations were constructed with additional insulation for privacy. A large meeting room was placed near the reception allowing groups to enter and exit without disrupting those seated in the main office. The open plan office area was then carefully divided into designated zones for full-time co-workers and casual members, also defining a hidden quiet zone for those members who wish to work uninterrupted in complete silence.

Through the subtle application of the company’s branding and colour scheme, familiar materials like plywood were used to align with the atmosphere of the prior office.

This ambience was lifted with the creation of bespoke, custom graphics, one in particular, which acts as a centrepiece framing the main meeting room. A traditional Peranakan shophouse decal brought the richness of Singaporean culture from the outside into the indoor space.

Aym design worked closely with the client and contractors to oversee the site demolition and rebuild whilst project managing day-to-day operations. The result was a highly marketable space with a capacity to accommodate 40 people a day, doubling the prior location and multi-functional meeting spaces for hosting workshops and events.
